Carlson Gracie Jiu Jitsu Chicago
Welcome to the Carlson Gracie Jiu Jitsu Federation Headquarters Chicago website. The home of Carlson Gracie Jr, and Team Chicago. We have recently relocated to a large 4,000 square foot facility in the Logan Square/Avondale neighborhood near the Northwest side of Chicago at 2866 North Milwaukee Avenue.
In 1997, Carlson Gracie Junior was the first to open a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy in Chicago. In the following years, his father, legendary Grand Master Carlson Gracie Senior came to join him and assist with teaching and training the art to which they have both dedicated their lives.
What makes Carlson Gracie Jiu Jitsu the best in Chicago?
As a IBJJF ranked 5th degree black belt, Carlson Junior or “Junior” as he is affectionately referred to, is the highest ranking BJJ instructor in the Chicagoland area. You would have to search far and wide to find someone of his ranking anywhere in the region. As a full time resident of the City of Chicago, Junior is the only member of the Gracie family that teaches in the Chicagoland area. Being that he was the first to bring BJJ to the area, not only has he produced the most black belts, but many of the black belts that are now teaching in Chicago, were under Junior’s tutelage. In more ways than one, Junior is Chicago BJJ.
What type of classes does Carlson Gracie offer in Chicago?
Junior has a team of five black belt instructors that assist him in teaching seven days a week. The classes include Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, MMA/No-Gi, Muay Thai, Competition Training, Judo, as well as children’s classes for BJJ and Judo. A well respected name in the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Junior often invites many of his peers, and friends for seminars and opens them to his “extended family” of schools throughout the Chicagoland area and beyond.
Carlson Senior was the defender of the Gracie name for decades. He was the first born of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu‘s founder Carlos Gracie. He was the first Gracie to teach everything he knew to people outside of the Gracie family, and he devised his own style of BJJ which was more agressive and better suited to Mixed Martial Arts combat. He was also the leader of the one of the most dominant mixed martial arts fight teams in history (Team Arrabentacao). Senior is arguably the greatest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner Mixed Martial Arts fighter / coach of his generation, perhaps of all time and Carlson Junior carries on his fathers passion, teachings, and tradition to this day. There is no one better on the planet to teach you the Carlson Gracie style of BJJ.
If you are in Chicago, and interested in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, you would be doing yourself a disservice to not give the Carlson Gracie Academy serious consideration.
