TRAINING PROGRAMS

OUR KIDS’ BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO CHALLENGE YOUR CHILDREN TO UTILIZE AND DEVELOP BOTH THEIR BODIES AND MINDS. YOUR CHILDREN WILL LEARN FUNDAMENTAL MOVEMENTS, CONCEPTS, AND CONDITION THEIR BODIES TO PREPARE THEM FOR THEIR TIME TO JOIN UP WITH THE ADULT BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU PROGRAMS. OUR GOAL IS FOR EACH CHILD TO “WANT” TO COME TO BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU AND MAKE TRAINING PART OF THEIR DAILY ROUTINE SO THAT WHEN THEY GROW OLDER, THEY WILL CONTINUE TO DEVELOP AND FLOURISH IN THE MARTIAL ART.

 

KIDS’ BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU CLASSES ARE HELD 6-DAYS PER WEEK AND HAVE A CURRICULUM WHICH WILL CONTINUALLY REINFORCE GOOD TECHNIQUE WHILE DEVELOPING THEIR ABILITIES.

ORIENTATIONS / PRIVATE LESSONS

IF YOU ARE NEW TO BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU OR HAVE NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE IN WRESTLING, JUDO, OR ANY OTHER GRAPPLING ART, WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OUR ORIENTATION CLASS. THIS 45 TO 60 MINUTE CLASS WILL INTRODUCE YOU TO BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU, ITS CONCEPTS, AND FAMILIARIZE YOU WITH SOME OF THE TERMINOLOGY AND MOVEMENTS YOU WILL NEED FOR YOUR FIRST FUNDAMENTAL CLASS. CLASSES ARE LIMITED TO FOUR PARTICIPANTS AND WILL MEET WITH OUR HEAD INSTRUCTOR OR ONE OF OUR BLACK BELT INSTRUCTORS. PLEASE CONTACT US TO SCHEDULE YOUR FREE ORIENTATION CLASS. WE OFFER ORIENTATION CLASSES 3-TIMES PER WEEK -- MONDAYS AND WEDNESDAYS AT 5:00 PM AND SATURDAYS AT 9:30 AM.

fundamentals 1

THESE CLASSES ARE DESIGNED TO WELCOME YOU TO BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU. THE CLASS INTRODUCES YOU TO THE BASIC POSITIONS FOUND IN BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU AND EMPHASIZES HOW TO CONTROL AND EXECUTE SUBMISSIONS AND ESCAPES FROM EACH POSITION. WHETHER YOU ARE BRAND NEW, OR WOULD JUST LIKE A REFRESHER ON SOME POSITIONAL DETAILS, THIS CLASS WILL PROVIDE YOU WITH THOSE CONCEPTS. EVERY CLASS IS STARTED WITH A BASIC WARM-UP TO HELP YOU TO LEARN HOW TO MOVE YOUR BODY SUCH THAT IT CAN PERFORM MORE ADVANCED COMPLEX MOVEMENTS IN THE FUTURE. THERE IS NO SPARRING (POSITIONAL OR FREE) IN THIS CLASS.

FUNDAMENTALS 2

A MORE “MOVEMENT-BASED” CLASS – THE FOCUS OF FUNDAMENTALS 2 IS TO TEACH MOVEMENT AND TRANSITIONS ACROSS ALL POSITIONS. YOU WILL CONTINUE TO REFINE TECHNIQUE AND BUILD “MUSCLE-MEMORY” WHILE LEARNING ADDITIONAL CONCEPTS THROUGH DRILLING AND POSITIONAL SPARRING. SPARRING CAN BE A PART OF EACH CLASS. WHILE WE RECOMMEND AT LEAST 3-MONTHS OF TRAINING PRIOR TO TAKING THIS CLASS, FUNDAMENTALS 1 ATTENDEES CAN ALSO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THESE CLASSES TO SUPPLEMENT THEIR TRAINING AND INCREASE THEIR DEVELOPMENT.

ADVANCED BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU

PROVIDES AN IN-DEPTH LOOK AND INTRODUCTION TO MORE COMPLICATED POSITIONS THAT ARE OFFERED INTO BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU. SOME OF THE CONCEPTS INTRODUCED IN THIS CLASS WILL BE SEQUENTIAL FLOWS AND COMBINATION ATTACKS FROM VARIOUS POSITIONS. THERE IS AN EMPHASIS ON DRILLS AND SPARRING THAT WILL ALLOW EACH PARTICIPANT TO TRAIN THEIR OWN INDEPENDENT WAY. SPARRING IS A PART OF EACH CLASS AND IS USED TO INCREASE THE STUDENTS’ OFFENSIVE, DEFENSIVE, AND CONCEPTUAL APTITUDE.

COMPETITION BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU

ADVANCED BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU WITH AN EMPHASIS ON TEACHING TECHNIQUES, CONCEPTS, AND STRATEGIES ON HOW TO SUCCEED IN BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU/ GRAPPLING COMPETITIONS. IN THIS CLASS, YOU WILL SOLIDIFY YOUR ABILITY TO ATTACK IN COMBINATIONS AND BEGIN TO LEARN HOW TO CONTROL MATCHES STRATEGICALLY AS WELL AS WITH YOUR SKILL. WE RECOMMEND THAT ATTENDEES HAVE AT LEAST SIX MONTHS OF EXPERIENCE, OR GENERAL KNOWLEDGE BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU FUNDAMENTALS. DRILLS AND SPARRING ARE A PART OF EACH CLASS AND ARE DESIGNED TO CHALLENGE EACH PARTICIPANT BOTH PHYSICALLY AS WELL AS STRATEGICALLY.

MIXED LEVEL BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU

WE UNDERSTAND THE NEED TO PROVIDE CLASSES THAT CAN ACCOMMODATE MEMBERS OF ALL SKILL LEVELS BASED ON THEIR AVAILABILITY, WHICH IS WHY WE PROVIDE SOME CLASSES THAT CAN CATER TO ALL SKILL LEVELS. EACH CLASS IS TAUGHT WITH THE CONCEPT OF TAKING A FUNDAMENTAL CONCEPT AND STRETCHING IT OUT INTO A MORE ADVANCED COMBINATION OF ATTACKS AND POSITIONS. THESE CLASSES MAY BE INTIMIDATING AT FIRST, BASED ON THE POTENTIAL ATTENDEES OF EACH CLASS, BUT WITH OUR TRAINING ENVIRONMENT, WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DEVELOP SKILLS QUICKLY FOR COUNTLESS OF INDIVIDUALS. SPARRING, WHETHER POSITIONAL OR FREE, IS A PART OF EACH CLASS BASED ON THE MEMBER’S SKILL LEVEL.

NO-GI MIXED LEVEL CLASSES

MIXED LEVEL CLASSES WITHOUT THE USE OF A BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU UNIFORM (GI) – BECAUSE OF A LACK OF “HANDLES,” AN EMPHASIS ON MOVEMENT AND CONTROL IS TAUGHT. TECHNIQUES, THAT MAY BE PRIORITIZED DUE TO THE LACK OF A UNIFORM WILL BE EXPLORED AND DRILLED CONSISTENTLY. SPARRING, WHETHER POSITIONAL OR FREE, IS A PART OF EACH CLASS BASED ON THE MEMBER’S SKILL LEVEL.

OPEN MAT

OPEN MAT IS A NON-INSTRUCTIONAL “CLASS” IN WHICH EACH ATTENDEE CAN INDEPENDENTLY EXPLORE BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU CONCEPTS AND TECHNIQUES, DRILL, OR SPAR WITH OTHER ATTENDEES.

 

OPEN MAT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC ALTHOUGH PARTICIPATION IS LIMITED TO BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU (GI OR NO-GI) DRILLING/ SPARRING. VISITORS ARE ENCOURAGED TO INTERACT AND TRAIN WITH OUR MEMBERS. PLEASE NOTE THAT PROPER BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU ATTIRE IS REQUIRED (GI OR NO-GI) AND WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO LIMIT PARTICIPATION AS NEEDED.

COMPETITION TRAINING

DESIGNED FOR COMPETITORS – COMPETITION TRAINING SESSIONS PLACE AN EMPHASIS ON CONDITIONING, POSITIONAL AND SITUATIONAL SPARRING, AND TIMED MOCK COMPETITION ROUNDS. THIS TRAINING IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR NOVICE OR RECREATIONAL MEMBERS. THE TRAINING INTENSITY IS INCREASED TREMENDOUSLY AS TO SIMULATE THE ENVIRONMENT OF A COMPETITION. THIS CLASS WILL TEST YOUR ABILITY TO CONCEPTUALLY AND STRATEGICALLY IMPOSE YOUR BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU WHILE TESTING YOUR PHYSICAL ABILITIES.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE SESSIONS ARE TYPICALLY HELD ONCE PER WEEK ON SUNDAYS BUT MAY BE HELD MORE OR LESS FREQUENTLY BASED ON DEMAND AND UPCOMING COMPETITIONS. IF POSSIBLE, IT WOULD BE BEST TO CONTACT US PRIOR TO ATTENDING THESE SESSIONS TO CHECK CLASS AVAILABILITY.

BOXING

OUR BOXING CLASSES COVER EVERYTHING YOU MAY NEED TO LEARN THE ART OF BOXING. FROM PROPER PUNCHING TECHNIQUE, DEFENSIVE MOVEMENT, FOOTWORK, AND PHYSICAL CONDITIONING, OUR CLASSES SERVE AS AN EXCEPTIONAL FOUNDATION TO BUILD ON. CLASSES ARE TAUGHT IN TIMED-INTERVALS TO SIMULATE THE NON STOP TRAINING A PRO-BOXER RECEIVES. EACH CLASS IS OPEN TO EVERYONE REGARDLESS OF SKILL LEVEL. WHETHER YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A GOOD WORKOUT OR LOOKING TO INCREASE YOUR BOXING KNOWLEDGE, THESE CLASSES ARE FOR YOU. THEY INCORPORATE A LARGE AMOUNT OF DRILLING AND TECHNIQUE THAT WILL MAKE YOU SWEAT, LOSE WEIGHT, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, LEARN THE CORRECT AND SAFE WAY TO BOX.

MUAY THAI KICKBOXING

MUAY THAI IS A POWERFUL MARTIAL ART, OR COMBAT SPORT, THAT USES STAND-UP STRIKING ATTACKS ALONG WITH VARIOUS CLINCHING TECHNIQUES. LOW KICKS, OR LEG KICKS, TO THE THIGHS UTILIZING THE SHIN INSTEAD OF ONE’S INSTEP ARE OFTEN ASSOCIATED WITH MUAY THAI. GRAPPLING WITHIN A CLINCH SITUATION IS ALSO EXPLORED WITH THE USE OF KNEES, ELBOW STRIKES, AND SWEEPS.

 

THE TRAINING MAY INVOLVE RIGOROUS PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, SIMILAR TO THAT PRACTICED BY WESTERN BOXERS. IT INCLUDES RUNNING, SHADOW-BOXING, AND HEAVY BAG WORK. EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON VARIOUS DRILLS WITH SO-CALLED “THAI-PADS.” IN USE, THE TRAINER WEARS THE PADS AND MAY HOLD THEM TO RECEIVE KICKS, PUNCHES, KNEES, ELBOW STRIKES, AND MAY ALSO USE THEM TO MOCK STRIKES AT THE OFFENSIVE PRACTITIONER.

MIXED MARTIAL ARTS (MMA)

MMA TRAINING IS AVAILABLE TO OUR MEMBERS WHO ARE LOOKING TO INTEGRATE THEIR STRIKING AND GRAPPLING TRAINING. OUR MMA CLASSES DEAL WITH BLENDING THE TRANSITIONS BETWEEN STAND-UP STRIKING TO GRAPPLING SITUATIONS AND VICE VERSA. BOTH OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE CONCEPTS ARE INTRODUCED AS WELL AS BASIC TECHNIQUES AND DRILLS. POSITIONAL SPARRING WITH CONTROLLED STRIKING IS UTILIZED TO DEVELOP BOTH POSITIONS OF STRENGTH AND WEAKNESS.
